Adverse Weather Conditions

Severe Weather Conditions Before Departure for School

In the unlikely event of closure an announcement will be made on the school Facebook page and website by 7:00 am.

Parents will also receive communication via Schoolcoms through the text messaging service (this service will not be able to receive parental responses).

Severe or Deteriorating Weather Conditions During the Day (i.e. after students have arrived at school)

With our students’ safety in mind we shall keep a constant check on road condition reports and weather forecasts. If conditions worsen during the day or if bus operators advise on an early departure, it would normally be our policy:

  • to enable students to begin their journey home before buses are taken off the roads and before daylight fades;
  • to allow anxious parents from outlying areas to pick up their children earlier in the day. On arriving at school, parents/carers will be required to go to reception in the main building and ask the office staff to locate the relevant student(s). Students must be formally signed off site by office staff before they can be allowed to leave the premises. Parents/carers must call the school first to check the situation.
  • to give students access to telephones to contact their parents.

Parent/Carers are therefore requested to ensure that students have up to date telephone numbers and that students know how to contact their parent/carer or some other responsible person in case of emergency and can get into their homes in their absence.
